I may be an IRL troll, but it's hilarious to watch.
Teaching English is even harder.
I was trying to teach one of my favorite classes this timeless prank:
Me: I should teach you guys something! Hey #1 (the older boy in class, 12 years old) high five - UP HIGH!
#1: *Completes high five*
Me: *Moves hand* OK DOWN LOW!
#1: *Looks confused* What?
Me: Gimme five! Come on!
#1: *Attempts low five*
Me: *Pulls away hand* TOO SLOW! HAHA. You get it? Try it with #2 (younger boy, 11 years old). Make like you're gonna do a high five. GREAT. Now you say "UP HIGH!"
#1: Up high! *Completes high five* Down low! *Moves hand away* AHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Me: You have to say TOO SLOW #1! Nevermind. Okay, #2, you try!
#2: Up high!
#1: Oppai (boobs)??? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
#2: OPPAI!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Me: NOT OPPAI! UP HIGH! UP HIGH! Gaaah you two...
These two also call Super Mario Brothers the Super Mario Brassiere, because "brothers" (bu-ra-za) and "brassiere" (bu-ra-jyaa) sound similar when katakana-ized.
I love being an English teacher.
Oh, snap! I'm glad that I'm now prepared for this result when I now try it on my students, haha!
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel better I had a similar embarrassing incident occur while I was in Japan. My study abroad group got invited to this elementary school to see how things run and to do a cultural exchange. Well we were divided up in groups of two and given a class room and told to teach them some English in some way, we could do this through games or whatever we came up with. So my partner and I did pictionary, but we would tell the drawler the word in Japanese and then the class had to guess what they were drawing by answering with the english word. Well I was trying to think of easy things to draw and that would be wildly know english words or something they had studied, so i figured fruits were a safe bet right? Well I had forgotten how "momo" is often associated with butts. And when I told this 8 year old that he had to draw a peach he looked at me like "are you sure?" and then we cracking up while trying to draw, and then the class was dying of laughter, and I was so embarrassed I wanted to be like "BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT!" to the teacher giving me the stink eye from across the room because I had sent her classroom into a giggling frenzy over a butt drawling :P
ReplyDelete@SuperHappyAWESOME - Yeah that was quite unexpected. Those two particular students are hilarious and really good at English though, so I let it slide.
ReplyDelete@Missy - LOL butt jokes are always great! My students laugh at some of the dumbest things, at least a butt drawing is kind of funny in itself.
